In this installment of the XRAY Archive Project, I talk with Rebecca Gates. Gates is one-half of a Portland-based indie rock duo called Spinanes. In the early 90s, Spinanes made music history when their album, Manos became the first indie album ever to reach number one on college radio music charts.
I talk with Gates about how Portland’s music culture has evolved, the sexism that still exists, feminism, and why she’s had a hard time calling herself a musician.
